Centre of assisted reproduction
The idea of in vitro fertilization method appeared in the middle of 20th century. Louize Brown – first “baby from the test-tube” was born in 1978 in England. Today there are 4 million of children who came to this world in similar way.
In vitro fertilization method came to Russia in 1986. Now there are already 30 centers of in vitro fertilization in Moscow, 10 – in St. Petersburg, 8 – in Kyiv.
First Minsk Center for infertile families was created with the help of American colleagues and one of the leading European geneticists – doctor G.L. Zuckerman,MD,PhD, in 1995. It didn’t need much time to win the leading positions among similar medical centers in the CIS.
But unique embryological laboratory of the center was dissolved in 1999 – by that time in was not profitable to run such an enterprise in Belarus. Equipment was moved outside the country and patients had to travel to Moscow, St. Petersburg, to the Cyprus and other countries.
Center for Assisted Reproduction “Embryo” opened in Minsk on June 1, 2001. It provides treatment for different kinds of infertility successfully using all types of assisted reproductive technologies.
Workers of the center were trained in technologies of assisted reproduction from specialists of the Chicago Institute of Reproductive Genetics, trained and worked to exchange experience in the USA, Russia, Ukraine, Cyprus and the Czech Republic.
